THE VILLAS OF RAVELLO
The most romantic location on the Amalfi coast
The most romantic location on the Amalfi Coast Lying on a cliff in a panoramic position, Ravello is the most romantic town of the coast: its villas – most famous being Villa Rufolo and Villa Cimbrone – are gorgeous, as well as the gardens, its Moorish architecture and the picturesque alleys.
"Nearer to the sky than to the sea" that’s how the writer André Gide depicted Ravello.
Inextricably linked to the commercial rise of the Republic of Amalfi, Ravello emancipated itself with an act of redemption of its own identity, hence the name Rebello (rebel). Today the town’s touristic side is combined with a special attention to music (the famous Wagnerian concerts that take place in the gardens of Villa Rufolo) and to culture with the European Study Centre of Cultural Heritage. All those factors have enabled the European Center to mount a museum in the tower of Villa Rufolo.
DURATION about 3 hours
The guided tour includes the visit to Villa Rufolo and Villa Cimbrone and their gardens, the Cathedral of San Pantaleone (illustration of the pulpits, the bronze door, the chapel of the Saint protector’s relic, the miracle of the annual liquefaction of his blood) and the Duomo’s Museum.
