THE AMALFI COAST

The divine coast

The stretch of coast from Vietri to Positano is internationally known for its natural beauty and its cultural value. In fact, it has been designated World Heritage Site by UNESCO since 1997.

The entire coast takes its name from the city of Amalfi, which is centrally located and which dominated the sea trade between the West and the East between 9th and 11th centuries. Interacting with different cultures, led to the origins of the Arab-Norman architecture. The Amalfi Cathedral is one of the best example of this influence.

Among other 15 municipalities on the coast, it is worth to mention Ravello, placed in a panoramic position, with its two magnificent villas, Villa Cimbrone and Villa Rufolo; Vietri sul Mare, well-known for majolica tiles production; Positano with its beautiful landscape known all over the world; Furore, with its small fjord and the Roman Villa in Minori.

The rugged coastline, high and jagged, has not prevented the flourishing of typical produce, such as lemon, milk and fish, especially Cetara anchovies.
