BUCCINO URBAN ARCHAEOLOGICAL PARK
The coexistence of modern architecture and ancient finds
The modern town of Buccino coincides with the ancient Volcei. It displays the coexistence of architectures belonging to the Lucanian, Roman and medieval eras that make us speak of “widespread display” for this village and of Urban Archaeological Park. The guided tour will bring you to discover the village ancient gates, the castle ruins, the rupestrian site in via Egito, the base of a temple in via S. Spirito, the Roman remains and most important the National Archaeological Museum “Marcello Gigante”. The museum, set in a medieval monastery, displays precious funeral outfits from the necropolis, among them, the splendid jewels of the so-called “tomb of the golds”.
