THE BAPTISTERY OF SAN GIOVANNI IN FONTE

A dive in the dawn of Christianity

Mystical place since the dawn of time, the Baptistery of San Giovanni in Fonte is located just 4 km from the Certosa di San Lorenzo. It is a rare example of early Christian baptistery where the baptism rite was practiced by immersion. What makes this unique, it is the presence of a perennial source of water on which it was erected, previously consecrated to the cult of the nymph Leucotea.

The surrounding rural landscape and the presence of the water enclosing the lustral setting radiate an ancient charm. A real "place for the soul", it is definitely worth a visit.
