AGROPOLI
A town overlooking the sea
The delightful and lively seaside town, Agropoli, is one of the most popular bathing destinations in Cilento. This ancient village rises on the top of a promontory, characterized by high rocky walls that plunge into the sea. Today a panoramic flight of stairs leads the visitor to the entrance of the old town, characterized by the main gate encased along the defensive walls. On the tiny square, overlooking the marina, there is the Church of Santa Maria di Costantinopoli, for whom the inhabitants foster a deep devotion. Each year on the 24th of July a traditional procession occurs along with a parade of boats.
Through picturesque alleys and stairways, you get to the Museum of the Grand Tour and to the Castle, from here the view extends on the entire Gulf of Salerno. The Palazzo Civico delle Arti is part of the itinerary, located in the lower part of the historic center.
